This 1888 letter from Sydney is a rare find for collectors of antique correspondence. Written by Warden Harry Graves, a notable sheep salesman, the letter mentions the American Consul, as well as “claiming compensation for the destruction of your sheep”. The letter is a valuable addition to any collection of pre-1900 correspondence.

It is addressed to W. G. Markham, who was heavily involved in the exportation of merinos to Australia. He convinced Australian wool growers that introducing American merinos into the Australia flock would increase their weight, and this was very successful.
