This gazetteer was published by the C> Railroad in September of 1883 and appears to be the only edition. It provides a wealth of information on the local destinations, timetables, maps, and much more. A variety of fascinating advertisements promote Studebaker Wagons, the Battle Creek Sanitarium, The Chicago Industrial Exhibition (including a view of the Exposition Building), and “Ladies’ and Children’s Underwear constructed on Dress Reform and Hygienic Principles.” A map of Chicago’s downtown district shows the location of transportation hubs and freight depots, while a second map (front page) advertises the lines of the Great Rock Island Route. There are many ads mostly from firms in Battle Creek, Lansing & South Bend. There are also amusing advice, news and anecdotal articles
