Original letter dated October 8, 1917 signed by Austrian Field Marshal Svetozar Boroević von Bojna who is considered one of the greatest war strategists of World War I. He had a long and successful career (fighting early battles in Bosnia, taking Sarajevo, and later distinguishing himself at many battles during World War I which included holding back the Russians at the eastern front and heroically pushing back eleven (11) separate Italian offensives at Isonzo while commanding the Austro-Hungarian Fifth Army).

He was made a noble for his services, was honoured with the highest rank of medals, and is the only military man from Croatia, and from south central Europe, to have achieved the rank of Field Marshall. When the Empire fell, he sent a message to the Emperor offering to march on Vienna in support of the Habsburgs but it was regrettably too late. He died in 1920 and has an impressive tomb at the Wiener Zentralfriedhof.
