This is a fabulous little antique pill bottle. it is made of 100% wood, both the bottle and the little stopper / cap. The pill that is advertised is a quack / miracle cure for all forms of dyspepsia called "Pan-Dis-Pep." The writing on the bottle (which is written directly on the wood, there is no paper label) is just fantastic, featuring a long list of the many ailments Pan-Dis-Pep will cure, including sour stomach and related maladies. Based on our research, it looks like the Logan Drug company of Wheeling was in business by about the 1850s and went out of business right around 1915, at which time the building it was housed in was turned into a hotel. We suspect this bottle was made in the latter half of the 1800s, but cannot date it with any accuracy. We do note that the wood has a wonderful dark patina - you can see a very strong contrast between the wood that is on the bottom half of the cap (which was protected from the air) and the wood that is on the top of the cap and the bottle.
