I own an advertising specialty company - now in our 45th year I am happy to report - and worked in the industry for many years prior to establishing my own firm. For many years my best client was what was formerly known as "The Bell System". Of course after divestiture, it was broken up into what was generally called the "Baby Bells" - and later morphed into many variations.So over the years we worked very closely with Western Electric, AT&T, Southern Bell, BellSouth, Lucent Technologies, OFS, Avaya, etc. I collected many over-run samples, one-or-a-kind spec samples, and the likes.I am now selling much of that collection via . Here is a one-of-a-kind speculative sample I had my supplier make in the hope of showing it to AT&T and selling an order of them in the 1990's. I was working with AT&T Communications. Sometimes they needed a nice gift for certain occasions. I felt this beautiful Six Piece Steak Knife Set in Butcher Block would be excellent for such purposes.
So as mentioned, I had my supplier create the template for the logo and laser it on the 100% wood butcher block. As an added touch, I had the supplier laser AT&T in their Helvetica typeface on each knife handle.
To me, this made an impressive and useful business gift. Unfortunately, AT&T decided to not use the idea. Their concern was that many of those who would receive it were traveling, and transit via airlines difficult. So they passed on my suggestion.
This was the only sample made, so one can say it is quite rare.
A little about this fine cutlery set:The individual steak knives are the "Yorktowne" model by Washington Forge. The blade is in stainless steel, and each knife is 8'5: in length. The tang goes all the way to the handles end, and triple riveted for lasting security. A mark of cutlery quality. AT&T laser engraved on each handle. This fine set was manufactured in Japan, and of course, decorated here in the U.S.A.
The 100% wood block is conveniently angled for easy access.
The unit is quite substantial, weighing one pound, fifteen ounces.
Although probably close to 30 years old, it is in as NEW condition. Never used, washed, etc. It has been kept in a sealed container in one ofo our climate controlled sample rooms.
An excellent addition to anyone who worked at AT&T or collects old Bell System memorabilia. A very rare find for sure.
