An excellent item for collectors of this subject and a highlight of any lighter collection.It works on the catalytic principle discovered by the German chemist Johann Döbereiner in 1823.When a frame containing black platinum beads on a wire is immersed in a compartment containing felt soaked in methanol, the platinum causes a chemical reaction, heating and the flash of methanol vapour.A great rarity in this condition!
