On July 2nd, 1927, Admiral Richard Byrd and Pilot Bert Acosta flew the Fokker Trimotor America. Attempting the 1st multi engine multi person flight from the United States to Paris. Rodman Wanamaker funded the Plane and Flight. 42 hours into the flight, approaching land in France during night, in tremendous fog, low on fuel, a water landing had to be made along the shoreline in Ver Sur Mer, France. There was no major injuries. These aviators were greatly celebrated in Paris, France after their arrival. This occasion was one month after Charles Lindbergh's Transatlantic flight to Paris, France. This photo was taken at that very arrival. A TRUE piece of Aviation History that is unmatched in comparison to what has ever been available to collectors of; History, Technology, Aviation, Heros, Explorers, Record holders, and famed Journalist/Authors. The men who signed the picture from left to right are; Bert Acosta, Admiral Richard Byrd, Herbert Adams Gibbons, and Marcel Doret.

* Bert Acosta- Former record holder for longest duration of flight with 51 hours and known to be a daredevil pilot. Piloted the 1st Transatlantic Postal delivery.

* Admiral Richard Byrd- 1st person to fly over the North and South Pole, youngest Navy Admiral in Navy history. 2nd Transatlantic flight in history.

* Herbert Adams Gibbons- American journalist who wrote about international politics and European colonialism during 1908-34. In 1931, as part of a world tour, Gibbons was the first person to cross the continent of Africa—from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean—by means of rail. He traveled to remote corners of the world to gain first hand information on the life, religions and political conditions in Asiatic and African territories. As such, he was a true-to-life inspiration for academic adventurers portrayed in films such as Indiana Jones.

* Marcel Doret- WWI French Hero. Flew over 40 prototype airplanes.


HISTORY of the Photo


1927-53. Al Lodwick founded Lodwick Aircraft Industries in February 1946 to convert war surplus military aircraft to non-military use

1953-95. Detroit Tigers Purchase Lodwick Airfield. Jim Campbell acquired photo, when placed in charge of construction development and the conversation to a Spring Training Baseball Facility for the Organization.

1995-2010. After Campbell passed, his possessions went to long time partner.

2010-present. After the passing of Campbell's partner. This photo was acquired through that Estate.


The photo itself measures 6 1/2x8 1/2". The window of the frame is 8x10. Frame itself is atleast 100 years old.
