This is a letter from the well-known Italianstatesman Giovanni Giolittito the notableItalian scientist Leonardo Bianchi.What makes this letter of particular interestis that it was signed by both of these men.This letter is written inItalian.

Giolitti signed the letter in black ink.

Giovanni Giolitti (1842-1928) was anItalianstatesman who served as Prime Minister ofItaly five times between 1892 and 1921.
Giolitti is widely considered one of themost powerful and important politiciansin Italian history. The period betweenthe start of the 20th century and the startof World War I, when he was Prime Ministerand Minister of the Interior from 1901 to 1914,with only brief interruptions, is often referredto as the "Giolittian Era".
Giolitti served as Minister of the Interior onfive occasions, as well asserving as thePrimeMinister of Italyonfive occasions.His complexlegacy continues tostimulateintense debateamong writers and historians.
Leonardo Bianchi(1848-1927) wasanItalian neuropathologist wholaterin hiscareer became involved in politics.
Bianchi was a professor of psychiatryandneuropathology at the Universitiesof Palermoand Naples. Hefounded thePsychiatricInstitute of Naples in 1882.In 1905, he wasthe Minister of PublicEducation, and in 1919became a memberof the Italian Senate.
His best known work is La MeccanicadelCervello (The Mechanism of the Brain).
Bianchi is remembered for his studiesand experiments of the frontal lobe.He described the lobe as the center ofcoordination and fusion of the incomingand outgoing products of the sensoryand motor areas of the cortex.
Unfolded, the letter is about 10" by 8".
It is dated February 11, 1913.
It is typed on a sheet of stationery ofthe Italian Ministry of the Interior. Giolittiwas serving as the Minister of the Interiorat the time this letter was written.
