1870’s to 1880’s Hugh Montagu Allen tintype. Unknown publisher. Likely Canada. Allen started the Allen Cup tournament in response of the Stanley Cup favoring pro hockey. Allen went bald prematurely. I have another image of him in a hat. I don’t know if the hat wear was a cause of the balding, but it was obviously a prop in hiding that in his photos. There are images of Allen where it looks like the photographer penciled in hair at the top. This is the only hockey tintype I’ve owned or heard of. I’m sure there are others out there, but a tough subject matter for the era at that. Tintype is only about 1 by 2 inch in size. Stains, toning, wear, emulsion, scratching, creasing, paint loss and rust. Feel free to ask questions.
