c1920-30’s Handpainted Teacup & Saucer Peach Luster & White Iridescent Noritake:
$21.00

This is a set of porcelain teacup and saucer with handpainted flowers on a background of iridescent white with peach luster and white stripes as the overall pattern. Except for the iridescent white on the inside of the cup! The red backstamp, of an M inside a wreath, with NORITAKE above, and handpainted below was used beginning in about 1920 through the 1930’s and is a piece of history prior to WWII. What a way to start your day, with coffee or tea in this fine handpainted porcelain cup and saucer! And when you are not using them, it would be so pretty to display!

Specifically there are two sprigs of flowers painted on each side of the cup and a thick band of gold surround the iridescent white on both the cup and the saucer. Also the edges of the cup and saucer are trimmed in gold, and the handle is also painted in gold. The porcelain itself is fine and thin, with a glaze that is very shiny. I see slight wear on the glaze of the center of the saucer when I hold it at an angle to the light, but it is hard to see if it’s wear or the unusual iridescent colors there. There is a bit of wear to the gold in places, particularly on the saucers gold edge circling the iridescent white center, where in 2 places some of the gold has come off. But still, a remarkable set, especially when realizing it is 84-104 years old! I looked closely with a very bright flashlight, and there are no chips, cracks, or crazing on the set.

The diameter of the cup is 3 & 3/4 inches and it stands 2 inches tall, and can hold 3/4 of a cup. The saucer’s diameter is about 5 & 1/2 inches.

The M inside the wreath of the backstamp stands for Morimura, the brothers who started the import business to the US in the late 1800’s. This backstamp later changed and had an N for Noritake, and the company name eventually became Noritake.

Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree video for a closer look.

I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, within one business day, sometimes same day, and on Saturdays if I can pack it up and get to the Post Office before they close at noon.

Any questions, please ask and thanks for looking!!
