4 ½ x 6 ¾, 4 pp, Brock, Nebraska, ALS, May 24, 1893, being a fine descriptive letter with agricultural content and a sampling cottonwood tree seed pods addressed to Mrs. John [Addie] Richards in Pulaski, NY, from her friend Stella.

“...I can hardly realize that I am in Nebraska, fourteen hundred miles from home; there is not much difference between the looks of the country here and at home...There are a good many hills here and much timber has been set out, mostly soft maple cotton wood and fruit trees; the stones, instead of being scattered all about as our way, are found very thick in places and the most of the land is free from them...

“Charlie is at work for our cousin and boards with us; we enjoy being together and he much rather board at home; we have plenty of house room and are very pleasant here during the summer; it seems almost like camping out in the woods; the house is nearly surrounded by trees and shrubbery and the birds are very thick...they do not seem much afraid; a hedge obstructs our view of the road...What a retreat this would be for Addie and the children...and what a treat for us...

“Trees have been leafed out a long time and the blossoms of the fruit trees are gone; tis very dry here...

“I enclose a leaf and pod of the cotton-wood tree; the cotton is flying about and thickly scattered on the ground...”
