Satzvey one-handed fencing sword Satzvey one-handed fencing sword

This fencing sword and its sister sword Nuremberg are the result of years of development by Volker Kunkel (director of the West-Coast-Institut in Offenbach, Germany) in cooperation and intensive exchange with various active fencing groups such as Zornhau or Stahl-auf- Stahl and other stage/fencing wrestling instructors.

For more than twenty years, Volker Kunkel has been teaching beginners and advanced practitioners in the art of fencing/sword fighting and these many years of experience have been devoted to the development of these swords.

This model with straight quillons is called Satzvey, the name of the medieval water castle in the German Eifel, where Volker Kunkel has been conducting fencing and sword fighting workshops for more than twenty years. Actually, he only differs from his sister sword Nuremberg by the shape of his crusader.
The forged spring steel blade was tempered in oil and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. It’s approx. 5 mm at the middle level of the crest and comes with a rounded and relatively wide tip to be approved for tournaments. The edges are 2 to 2.5 mm thick. In addition to the blacksmith’s mark on the blade, the sword also features the WCI mark on protection.

The one-handed Satzvey and Nuremberg swords are largely true to the original examples of the Middle Ages. Each sword is handmade, but all swords have almost the same specifications in terms of weight, dimensions, manageability and resistance to blade-to-leaf contact. In terms of handling and appearance, they offer a successful combination of functionality and beauty. They have been specially developed for ambitious swordsmen whose aspirations go far beyond simply carrying a sword to match their outfit. These medieval swords are ideal for those who are interested in the recreation of late medieval combat/fencing and are looking for a weapon with which they can properly implement and perfect the techniques and combinations of the old masters (Liechtenauer, Thalhoffer, Vadi, sword category: SK-A.
