This antique split turtle shield with fringes is a unique piece of Native American craftsmanship, possibly from the Dakota (Lakoda Tribe). The shield has some writing on it...see pics. Tribe ownership history is not available. It is handmade, unmodified, The shield which is darker than pics... represents the rich culture and heritage of natives of this land. Wish I had more info. (14 × 12inches approx.)
