Vintage German Photo or Lithograph?

This is a template: A photo of a soldier's head/face would be superimposed onto it.

I am not sure if this is a lithograph of a painting, or a photo, or other. It appears to be rare.

It is paper that is securely, smoothly and evenly attached to a fairly thin piece of cardboard.

I don't know how old it is, but it is old. It is in great vintage condition.

The back has a small area towards the bottom that appears to be peeling a layer of paper. It may look like wood but it is not.

The back has a washed look as if it was wet at one time but it feels smooth and I don't see any blurring or water damage.

I do not know much about this. If you have more information on it I would love to hear about it, including whether I have it listed in the correct "category" here on .
