This stunning Antique Square Meriden Silverplate Bride's Basket with a Cranberry Hobnail Bowl insert would make a beautiful Victorian-style centerpiece. The square shape of the bowl is certainly unique and sought after and the cranberry color is clear and very striking. We see no issues with either the stand or the glass insert. The insert's pontil is polished. The part of the stand in which the insert sits is square with square corners. The bottom of the insert is also square, but with rounded corners. Described differently, the insert has 4 straight sides, with rounded corners. The insert does fit securely on the stand, helped by the hobnails. We can't be sure this is the original bowl that came with this Bride's Basket. There are 6 mold marks going around the side panels of the insert. The bottom part appears to be one round mold. And, the top edge seems to be one round mold. The insert is about 7-5/8" across, and the depth of the insert is about 2-1/2". The overall height of the insert is about 3". At it's widest point, the handle is about 9" across, and 9-5/8" high. The inside bottom of the bowl has light scratches. The underside of the stand has 3 stamps. One says "Meriden B Company". Another says, "Quadruple Plate". And, the last says "263". The two rods that form the handle are very sturdy. The bowl weighs 2-1/2 pounds. The frame weighs 1-1/2 pounds.
