Rare circa 1948 The "CORNFIELD FOLLIES" Gang KWTO radio Promo photo:
$100.00

Great original Americana Ozark Hillbilly music promotional photo circa 1948 from my Estate Sale today. A cast of 6 from the "Cornfield Follies" gang on KWTO radio out of Springfield, MO. At 9 1/4" x 11", this is a little oversized from the traditional 8" x 10". Whether this is a one-of-a-kind shot I cannot say, but it is certainly a rare capture of a group of leaders in the Americana Ozark music scene which gained popularity throughout North America. A true who's who featuring Bill RIng who was the promotional genius behind Korn's-a-Krackin' and the Ozark Jubilee. Both of these pioneering radio shows became nationally syndicated in the U S and Canade on over 1,200 stations. Bill RIng also produced 260 episodes of the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show, and coined the wonderful phrase: "If you're too busy to go fishing, then you're too busy. On the opposite side of the KWTO microphone from Bill is Floyd "Goo-Goo" Rutledge sporting the mock 100# sack dress advertising Red Star Perfect Process Enriched Flour. Goo-Goos' fame go back to the early vaudeville of the 1920s. Paired with Lennie Aleshire as Lennie & Goo-Goo, and performing with Weaver Brothers and Elvity Vaudeville. He later joined the Korn's-A-Krackin' show on KWTO. Far left is Dale Parker a Nashville songwriter and radio personality who was with KWTO from the mid 40s thru the 50s, and Audie Lee "Buster" Fellows a fine fiddle player for the radio station. Far right is Chuck Bowers who joined KWTO in 1948 and was a regular on the syndicated Ozark Jubilee, recorded on the Decca label and had his own regular 9 A M saturday morning radio show. Next to Chuck stands Jack Crandall an integral part of KWTOs success. A great mind, lover of music and I believe the same who went on to become the town doctor in Aspen, CO, but I am not certain. An amazing and rare cast of characters representing the worldwide popularity of "Hillbilly" Ozark Music so loved then as it still is today. I truly have no way to determine the value of such a photo, so I will put a number on it and use my typical "Best Offer" listing format so buyers can offer their own opinions or information.
