We are offering two albumen photographs pertaining to the Parsons Paper Company that specialized in cotton-based fine writing paper, located in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
1.) The first photo is of the architect's drawing of the planned Parsons Paper Company mill building. Circa 1850. The photograph is titled in fine print at the bottom "Crescent Street Elevation of Parsons Paper Company's Block". [In an architectural drawing, an elevation is a representation of a vertical surface of a building.] Written on the back in ink is "Parsons Block, Holyoke. Planned by Grandpa" Then, the name "Sidney B. Curtis" is written, obviously the architect. The photo is 3" x 4 3/8"; the card it is on measures 3 1/4" x 5". The company went out of business in 2005, and in 2008 the building was destroyed by a large fire.**NOTE** - From what we have read, Parsons Paper Company was established by Joseph C. Parsons in 1853. We have seen two pictures of the company's buildings online - one is of the original mill after it had been expanded, circa 1897; and the other is a picture of the Parsons Paper Co. Mill No. 2, circa 1978. We could find no photo of the original mill as it appears here before it was expanded.
2.) The second photo, we believe is of Sidney B. Curtis, the architect, as we acquired both photos together. The photo is 3 5/8" x 4 5/8"; the card it is on measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/8". We have not been able to find any information or a picture of Sidney B. Curtis.
