Celebrity: Osa Johnson. (1894-1953). Adventurer and author. Best known for her memoir I Married Adventure which was listed in The Best Books of the Decade, 1936-1945. Osa was married to Martin Johnson. In the 1920s and 1930s the names of Martin and Osa Johnson were synonymous with African safaris. They shaped the way Americans in the first half of the twentieth century viewed Africa.Martin Johnson died on January 13, 1937, in a plane crash. Osa survived but was severely injured and was confined to a wheel chair.

Description: Typed letter signed to a collector, New York City, March 16, 1937. "Your letter, along with hundreds of others, came to me while making the tour of the cities on our schedule, which was made up before my husband's death.It is avery great consolation to me to know, in going through this trouble, that friends everywhere are thinking of me. My lecture tour will keep me occupied for several months. I am recuperating nicely, except for the fractured leg. I still have to use a wheel chair.

The photograph Osa refers to is 4x7 sheet of paper with a newspaper photo of Osa with a head hunter signed below image in fountain pen ink.
