Product:

This is a hand plane “Kanna” fullymaintained for ready to use. Please check video and photo and feel free tocontact us for more details.

  • Blade: 72mm Wide (lower) x 109mm Tall, used.
  • The marks you can see on the sharpening surface of the blade are from the asari-hammer used when uradashi (reshape the blade).
  • Chip-breaker: 62mm Wide x 55mm Tall, used.
  • Wood Bottom Dai: 89mm Wide x289mm Length x 36mm Thickness, NEW. The surface of the Dai-sole is tuned in two-point touch.

Though Dai is new, epoxy resin isapplied between the blade and Dai to more fitting.

  • Since the Dai is new, the gap of the blade mouse is very narrow when the cutting edge is exposed. If you hold the stand over a light, you can just barely see the light through the gaps (see the last photo).
  • The gap in the blade mouth is so small that you may not need a chip breaker for a while. Even if you insert the chip breaker, you will hardly be able to see the cutting edge. You may be surprised at how thin it can be plane with just one blade.

·In my video, I performed planing a SPF wood timberwithout chip-breaker because blade-mouth is very narrow. Wood shavings leapedout from the Kanna were very thin as a stocking net.

You may think that the price is alittle high. You can buy a used, unmaintained Kanna around $30 to $50 onthe ,but if you don't have much experience with Kanna, maintaining itso that it can be used properly will not work even if you spend days doing itproperly. It is generally said that even a carpenter needs fiveyears to become proficient with a plane, and it is the most difficult toolamong carpentry tools.

To improve your Kanna skills, itis essential to first use a plane that has been fully maintained for immediateuse.

I think that the price is worththe time and effort of maintenance. In particular, the superiority ofJapanese Kanna is more evident with a new base.
