A photography antiquarian assessed my tintype as being fromthe late 1860s or early 1870s.

Tintypes wereexceptionally rarely found in thiskind of frame, and even more unusual is that this frame was apparently madespecifically for a tintype, and a tintype of this size.

Measuring the back of thephoto itself, 2 ½” x 3 &7/8”

Measuring the top part, the removable rectangular frameitself, 3” W x 4 ¾” H.

The complete frame, counting the base, width and peak height are, 4 ¼”W x 5 and 7/8” H.

Tintypes werepatented in 1856 & popular in theVictorian Era until about 1867. Tintypephoto studios were still around into the early 1900s, as a novelty.

This was mygrandparents. My mom recalls it being around since forever.
