This genuine, French antique cast smoothing iron dates to the mid 19th Century made around 1850-60s.These old ‘flat’ or ‘sad’ irons (so called, becausein Middle English, “sad” meant “solid”) make for great door stops, bookends or paperweights, are perfect for pressing flowers, or simply used as beautiful antique accents.We recommend that to keep this beautiful piece in pristine antique condition it is lightly oiled periodically to avoid corrosion especially if it is kept in a damp environment (a laundry or bathroom etc).
