This was my father's Summer (and Field) uniform before he retired from the Air Force in 1967. Since his retirement, this uniform was stored in a dust free clothing bag. Prior to his retirement, my father was the senior NCO at Offutt AFB, SAC Headquarters, responsible for communications working at the lowest level underground. More specifically, his primary role was in managing cryptography to ensure secured communications, along with operations of "Looking Glass" -- the airborne backup Strategic Air Command communications headquarters. [Five Boeing KC-135 jet tankers were converted to aerial battle command centers for use in the event that the SAC Headquarters was bombed and became incapacitated. One plane was always in the air within radar range of Offutt, on a 15-minute alert basis 24 hours a day.]This USAF Air Force CMSgt Summer Khaki Uniform is a rare and authentic piece of militaria from the late 1950's to the 1960's -- the Vietnam and Cold War Era.
