Authentic U.S. Navy uniform sports shirt issued circa 1951 to sailors on the U.S.S.PickawayAPA-222 attack transport during its service in the Korean War.

Manufactured in the U.S. by Wilson Sporting Goods Co., the cotton pullover T-shirt appears to be a Size Small.

Measurements

Collar (circumference):21 inches

Sleeve cuffs (circumference):14 inches

Width, armpit to armpit:17 ¾ inches

Length, collar to tail:21 inches

This shirt was issued to my father during his Navy service from 1951 to 1954, which included two tours of duty in Korea on thePickaway,an amphibious attack transport ship taking fresh infantry members from Japan to the Korean combat zone and transferring soldiers from battle to Japan.

Named for Pickaway County, Ohio, the ship, produced by Paramente Metals Corp. in Richmond, California, was launched on Nov. 5, 1944. After service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, thePickawaywas decommissioned on Jan. 30, 1970.
