Rosebank is a heritage-listed detached house at 21 LawsonStreet, Mysterton, city of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was built I 1886. It was added to the “Queensland HeritageRegister” in1992.

Andrew Ballwas one of the first Europeans to explore the Cleveland Bayarea andis acknowledged as the founder of Townsville. In 1877, he married MrsRose O’Neill, a widow and owner of the Exchange Hotel in FlinderStreet. In 1885 they acquired titleto a 20-acresite about 3 miles out of town, southwest along the ChartersTowers Road and Rose and Andrew Ball builtRosebank, a largetimber residence picturesquely situated overlooking a small lagoon and creek. AndrewBall died at Rosebank in 1894, aged 62, and his widow remained there untilher death in 1925, aged 83 leaving the house to their daughter.

In 1940 the local Council resumed thewatercourse in front of Rosebank to create public parkland, part of MindhamPark. This “Willmett’s”postcard captures “Bathers at Rosebank, Townsville” long beforeit was covered over. The card is inexcellent condition with minor wear and a clean, clear, nicely colored image ofsome younger children enjoying the lagoon or creek. The reverse is also clean.

Willmetts & Sonswas a printing house in TownsvilleQueensland, est. 1882, that published view-cards depicting local scenes intinted halftone that gave the illusion of being hand colored. Some of thesecards have a very high gloss finish.
