On the nightof 2nd November 1944 leavingthe target Dusseldorf aircraft was attacked and shot down , the aircraft wentinto an uncontrolled dive and the captain ordered the crew to abandon aircraft.The Rear Gunner was trapped so Sgt D J Allen went to help, chopped away at thedoor with an axe. The aircraft was blazing and rapidly losing height butsucceeded in freeing the rear gunner from his turret and moved forward to baleout. At that moment the aircraft broke in two and found himself in mid air ,pulled his rip – cord and very soon landed. Full details enclosed. Photo Size 2½ by 3 ½ inches and Details enclosed .
