This exquisite handmade Peruvian retablo depicts a colorful mask shop scene crafted by the talented Claudio Jimenez Quispe (see signature on the back). The intricate details of the miniature figures and settings showcase the rich culture and tradition of Peru. The ownership history of this unique piece is not available, because I don’t have the receipts, however I purchased it from Folk Tree in Pasadena, CA that is no longer in business but was known for its folk art. The photos show the intricacy of the craftsmanship and the attention to detail. In my research I located other pieces by this artist to make sure I had the right artist and the signatures matched pretty close to this signature so I feel confident I have the right artist.

This piece measures 3” wide with the doors open, 1-1/2” wide with the doors closed x 2-3/4” tall x 1/2” deep.

I bought this a few years ago but I put that’s it’s new because it’s been a box all these years so it’s in mint condition.
