The photographs don't do this specimen justice, this specimen is VERY SPARKLY !!Absolutely beautiful mineral specimen of Galena ( Lead sulphide) from Bulgaria. This amazing piece is large with next to no matrix, it's 99% pure galena and weighs 662g !! The specimen is roughly fist sized, displaying the amazing galena, cubic crystal structure. When the specimen is viewed closely, you will see the added attraction of shiny bright chalcopyrite crystals, beautiful tiny but perfect needle like quartz crystals along with epidote holding everything together. A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT GALENA:
Galena is the natural mineral form of lead sulphide (PbS). The mineral occurs as fine to large crystals and the colouris shining lead-greyand silvery with high specific gravity between 7.2 and 7.6 g/cm3 containing 86.6% Pb in the purest form. Most of the galena deposits contribute a lucrative amount of silver added by product. The crystal system is cubic with perfect cleavages, and contract, penetration, and lamellar twinning. The mineral show sub-conchoidal structure, brittle tenacity, and metallic lustreon cleavage planes. Galena is moderately soft with hardness varies between 2.50 and 2.75 at Mohs scale.
