Authentic Japanese silk Haori with hand-painted design of colorful peony tree, symbol of beauty. Late Showa period (1980's)
Crafted in medium-weight black silk, softly woven and semi-lustrous. Ivory lining with white and pink cloud pattern. 'Eba' design, extending uninterrupted over the central back seam, showcases superior quality.
The Arboreal Peony (botan), known as the 'king of flowers', symbolizes nobility, wealth, and honor.
In excellent vintage condition, no faults in the exterior, but with some stains on the lining.
Size: S/M size. Haori are short kimono jackets traditionally worn over full-length kimonos, it is supposed to be large and flowing.
Himo cords: Unlike regular jackets, Haori are not designed to close in the front but can be secured with two tying cords called Himo, which are knotted across the chest. These are included in this jacket and they are an intricate weave in warm white silk with a hint of silver thread, forming a rounded cord with elegantly tasseled ends.
