This is aPsittacosaurus dinosaur skeleton fossil in a rock matrix with stomach gastroliths. The back of the rock has fish fossils in the matrix. Psittacosaurus, aka, horned dinosaurs, lived in Asia during the Cretaceous Period around 100 million years ago.
The rarity of a specimen like this (preserved in 2-D) and coming up for sale, especially from within the U.S., makes this a very desirable fossil. Aesthetically, 3-D fossils of any specimen are very appealing and more common with this species, but for any collector looking to get a truly unique Psittacosaurus specimen, this item is indeed a special find.
Besides the 2-D aspect, this fossil tells a story as something catastrophic happened to have become preserved with the fish. The specimen also has stomach stones called gastroliths which when swallowed and retained would aid with their digestive systems.
This fossil came with an Extinctions identification tag which will be included. As a bonus, it will also come with a Riker box display. Thisextraordinarymuseum quality fossil will display beautifully on the wall or any desktop. It measures 18.5\" x 10.75\" x .5\" thick and weighs 6lbs 11oz. The matrix shows some signs of repair but overall remains in excellent condition.
