Stigmata in Christianity are the appearance of bodilywounds, scars and pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds ofJesus Christ, such as the hands, wrists, and feet. Here St. Francis manifeststhese wounds on his hand.

This medal dates from the 18th century. It is 1.75 incheslong and weighs 14 grams of bronze. This medals dating can be confirmed onpages 49-53 of the book Artifacts of the Spanish Colonies of Florida and theCaribbean 1500-1800, by Kathleen Deagan.
