19th Century Staffordshire Stag & Doe Spill Vase:

This is an excellent example of a 19th century spill vase. You might be thinking to yourself \"Self, you couldn\'t fit many flowers in that vase...\". And do you know what, you\'re right! Because that is entirely not what a spill vase was for! These were used for holding small bits of taper or splint that were used to transfer fire, say to light a pipe or a candle. Those little bits were called… go on, guess. That\'s right, spills! Hence a spill vase.
And since GOODNESS knows nobody wants to look at a tube full of sticks, we get this fancy fella here that\'s got a lovely stag and doe.
You can still put a couple small flowers in it though… you know, if you want to. I won\'t tell.
