new Hollywood fadThis is a rare “Illustrated Current News” poster, dated July 31, 1935. It measures 12 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in very good condition, with some light grime along the right edge, a tiny edge tear at the bottom, and two punchholes in the blank left margin. It also has two old fold lines, as originally issued. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which displayed them for viewing by their customers.)This poster presents photos of three very different subjects, two lighthearted and one a small disaster.The poster's headline and caption explains:CAMERA FLASHES1. A new fad in Hollywood. Instead of pictures — doll replicas of actors and actresses. L to R: Greta Garbo, Will Rogers, Wallace Beery, W.C. Fields and Joe E. Brown. 2. U.S. relief warehouse in Chicago, Ill. filled to capacity with Government-owned foods for relief is pictured after one wall had collapsed. 3. “Chimp” champion beer drinker, who in fifteen minutes exhausted the capacity of two beer pumps, is shown guzzling the foaming brew.
