1925 Vintage Press Photo by WIDE WORLD PHOTOS.Commander Donald MacMillan, U.S.N., who was leader of the National Geographic-Navy Expedition to the Frozen north, photographed at the wheel of his ship, the \"Bowdoin\" in the garb of the frozen north, as he arrived yesterday at Wiscasset, Maine, the starting and finishing point of the expedition.Donald Baxter MacMillan was an American explorer, sailor, researcher and lecturer who made over 30 expeditions to the Arctic during his 46-year career. He pioneered the use of radios, airplanes, and electricity in the Arctic and put together a dictionary of the Inuktitut language.
